Southern Gulf Catchments

Southern Gulf Catchments (SGC) is a community-based non-profit organisation tasked with the planning and implementation of strategic and sustainable natural resource management (NRM) within the Southern Gulf Region in Queensland. The region covers 195,000 square kilometres and encompasses the catchments of the Flinders, Cloncurry, Leichhardt, Gregory, and Nicholson Rivers, Settlement Creek and Morning Inlet (see map).

With funds sourced from the Commonwealth Government’s Natural Heritage Trust and State Government in-kind support, SGC coordinates NRM activities throughout the southern gulf region including:
Weed Control
On-ground conservation projects;
Water course fencing; and
Pasture monitoring
See our website at www.southerngulf.com.au for further information on key projects and checkout our quarterly newsletter.

The contribution of a 4WD vehicle by Southern Gulf Catchments allows Project Officers better access to remote communities to facilitate the implementation of the Carpentaria Ghost Nets Programme.
