Pormpuraaw Land and Sea Centre
The Pormpuraaw Land and Sea Centre is based in Pormpuraaw on the west coast of Cape York. It was re established in 2005/2006 and has the task of implementing sustainable natural resource management strategies. The rangers have an area of 500,000 hectares to manage. Currently, there is one ranger coordinator, one senior ranger (both full time) and two trainee rangers (part time). Rangers are proactive with tourist management, feral animal control, declared weed control and mapping, ghost net recovery and surveillance for foreign fishing vessels. Cultural heritage recording and sea turtle nesting monitoring programs are also underway.
